Before using the device driver wizard, you should collect the following information:

• The version of Windows CE your driver will support.
• Determine the device bus type. (see CodePalette Code Generation)
• Determine whether the driver will use Read, Write, Device I/O Control interfaces (see Streaming I/O Drivers)..
• Determine whether the driver will be power managed (see Handling Power Management).
• Determine the I/O resources used (Interrupts, Port or Memory mapped I/O) for "local" bus types.
• If custom I/O controls are required, prepare a preliminary list of I/O control codes.

Launch the wizard by navigating in the Windows Start menu to:

Programs->Codetelligence->CodePalette for Windows CE->CodePalette for CE

Click "Begin wizard" on the first page and click "Next" until you encounter the following wizard panel:

On the final screen:

the wizard will display the files to be generated and the output directory for those files. A default directory is provided and you can click on the button to direct the output to another directory. Click "Finish" to generate the source code. To understand the organization of the generated driver see topic: "Using the Generated Source". To build the driver see topic "Building the Driver".

If the "Create HTML Documentation" option was selected, the driver project should contain a \Doc directory containing a collection of HTML files for the generated source. You can click on the "readme.htm" document that provides a listing of source files and additional HTML links for an overview, function reference and a list of TODOs.
